Q: How do you replace the head gasket on a 1987 Toyota supra?
I just bought my supra and knowing that they have notorious head gasket problems, I want to change mine and put sone ARP bolts to make sure I don’t blow the engine. That being said, does anyone know a website with step-by-step instructions on how to do this, or can anyone email me a set of instructions from personal experience. Thank you in advance.

I want to find a supra from a seller who is trusted and has not raced or beat the car. A car that will last me some time. Have any suggestions?

i am NOT the kind of guy who wear skinny jeans, and i dont think bootcut will owrk well because supra shoes look awful when they are covered up.

A: Define cheap….
Nothing very cheap will add any significant power.
More aggressive cams will add anywhere from 20-40 peak hp but they’ll set you back anywhere from 600-1100 bucks.
That’s about the median for some good solid gains, improved throttle response and more power throughout the power band.
Q: Does anybody know of a tuner shop in Nyc that will perform an engine swap on my supra?
I have a 1986.5 mkiii supra with the n/a 7mge engine. I would like to swap in the turbo 7mgte engine. Does anybody know of a shop in Nyc that will do it and does very good work?

Q: Where can I find a power steering reservoir bracket for an MKIII Supra?
I’ve got a 1990 Supra which I recently bought a turbo engine for. In the process of switching engines, I realized I need a new bracket and I’ve searched everywhere including ebay and various sites on google. Everything turns up for domestic engines, but clearly that is not what I need. Any ideas?

A: dealers are a rip off. if you want one sell the stang out right on Craigslist. you will get alot more money then a dealer will give you. and on Craigslist the supra will be cheaper then from a dealer. and i hope that stang isn’t a GT model your trading for that pos 4cyl. i say keep the stang if its a GT. mods are so cheap for them. they can hit 11s EASY

Q: Can you strip the transmission on a supra and replace it with another?
I was thinking about stripping the transmission from an automatic to a manual. How much would it cost too? Can i do it to a modified supra?
A: yes i can be done but not recommended, you will have many other problem like your check engine light will never go away, thus you will have problem registering your vehicle. unless you change main engine computer and wire harness. in short it will be more expencive than just selling that car and get what you want. good luck
Q: Does anyone know how to instal a speedometer cable in a 1987 toyota supra?
My boyfriend recently purchased a 1987 supra and before he can get a safety on it he has to instal a new speedometer cable but we have no idea how he even got a book on his car and it doesn’t say. So if anyone knows please help me, and please in as much DETAIL as possible i dont want him screwing up his car.
A: The cable runs from the back of the odometer to a connection on the transmission. Both ends of the cable have a threaded nut that attach to these receptors. Right ?? Just unscrew the old cable from the odometer, and tape the new cable to it so you can pull it through to the transmission. Should take about 20-30 minutes.
Q: How to convert an Inline 6 for a 91 Supra to a V8?
I want to take the V8 out of a Camaro and pop it in the Supra, but how? I have little experience with working on cars.
A: inline 6’s are pretty good. with a few mods, you can make that straight 6 compete with the v8’s. But for your question…need to know a few things. Is your supra front wheel drive or rear wheel drive (i’m betting front)? Second, you may need to strengthen you front end to support the weight of a heavy stock V8. 3rd, if you have a front wheel drive vehicle, then you may have clearance issues with the hood and engine compartment. If it’s rear wheel drive then i’d say take the tranny out of the camaro too and figure a way to get that in there. so, after all that, look on the on the internet for an adapterplate to go inbetween your japanese tranny to your american motor. also you may need to change (i think) the flywheel on your american motor, as well as other stuff on the japanese tranny. you will also have big mounting issues trying to put that v8 amercian standard (inches) into a japanese (metric) system. you’d need the motor mounts and…gosh, really, it would be much simpler to modify your straight 6. they put out some really good power.
Q: Why is the old Toyota Supra so overlooked in the world of motorsports?
I just don’t understand. you almost always hear about older (aka 1985-1993) honda’s, mazda’s, nissan’s and all them, which are good cars, but it seems like very few people like the older supra’s. is there a reason for this?
A: before the mkiv supra (1993+) the supra wasnt much of a performer,
the non turbo model had only 150HP and was heavy at nearly 1.5 ton,
the turbo model was 210HP at close to 1.5 ton,
this is compared to the mkiv supras 316HP tt motor,
The older supras are heavy, not to fast and are prone to blowing headgaskets, this combined with there outdated looks..
the mkiv supra has a timeless look which is a major reason it is so popular, also because of its 2JZE motor which is renowned for its strength!
Q: what performance upgrades would you recommend on a 98 MKIV supra?
i don’t know much about the car but i have wanted one since fast and furious, i now have one and want to do some performance upgrades, what would you recommend? also could you help me to learn about the supra?
A: Sell it and buy something worth working on that isn’t a follower car. If you really bought a car because of a movie, you should probably re-evaluate your idea of hobbies.
