Q: What should I do about reporting an old 1974 El Camino that my husband & I saw in a ditch off the highway?
We noticed it a few days ago and it looks as though someone tried to cover it with leaves or something. Then again, it could be abandoned…I mean, it WAS an old El Camino after all.
Anyhow, my husband said to mind my own business but I can’t stop thinking that maybe something’s wrong since it has been there for several days now.
A: This may be a clue. Does it have an 8-track?
Q: I live in Iowa and looking for Used 1985 El Camino parts. Does anyone know a good start?
Im looking at a place I can go here in Iowa or nearby state to buy a front nose for my 1985 El Camino. If anyone knows of a good place to go plz shoot me an email at christopher.lloyd13@yahoo.com thx.
A: Don’t know a place to go but a website I use is elcaminostore.com
Q: What does an El Camino get in gas mileage, and how long will it last?
I would like to try to buy an El Camino as my first car, but i dont know how it does on gas mileage or how reliable it is. Does anyone have any information on it?
I havent really looked at them, (i dont have my permit yet) so what would be the best year as far as mileage and reliability? I’d try to find as close as possible to whatever is recommended.
A: An El Camino is a very good first choice. If you get one with a V8, don’t expect great gas mileage. What you can do is buy one that came with a 305 or 350 and pull the engine and replace it with a carbureted 4.3 liter from an older Chevy S10, if you want power, you can rebuild the V6 with parts from a Vortec and it will run like a well tuned V8, but with better fuel mileage. The stock El Camino is actually pretty strong, you can expect it too last a good long time, assuming the engine in it is still in reasonably good condition.
Q: How many calories are in El Camino’s bean dip?
How many calories are in El Camino’s bean dip? I’m trying to count calories, and I know bean dip isn’t healthy but I need to know how many calories in it.
A: Don’t know exactly, but if you’re counting calories, you better stay away from bean dip.

I have a BEAUTIFUL mint condition 1987 el camino. The thing is amazing looking with 80,000 original miles, 2 owners, garage kept. Original Everything, What should or shouldn’t I do. I paid $5,000 for this and would like to get something out of it. Please help and maybe I can offer a littler kick back on some great advice.
A: if it’s mint, take to a chevy show with a for sale sign.
Q: What size engine does a stock 1983 el camino ss come with?
im looking at an el camino, and the seller states that it is a 83 el camino ss, it has a 305, im wondering if he replaced the engine or if chevy had a 305 ss el camino
A: in 1983 they had 3 size motors they used 4.3 262cid V6, 5.0 305cid V8 and the 5.7 350cid V8
heres the info on all the EL-CAMINOS
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_El_Camino

Q: How many 1977 El Camino classics were made?
My boyfriend wants to know how many 1977 Chevy El Camino classics were manufactured originally since he has one. Just curious. Thanks!
to Ian M: the car says
“El Camino
Classic”
right on it, in shiny silver-colored writing.
A: I ‘don’t know, but if it’s a 1977 model it’s not a classic, never was and probably never will be. Bejesus it’s got a catalytic converter, that rules it out.

Q: Should I buy a completely disassembled El Camino?
My uncle is trying to get rid of a 1970 SS396 El Camino and he’ll give it to me for $1,500. It is sitting in my grandma’ garage completely disassembled. I would like to buy it and put it together in my garage, but I’ve never done anything like this. I’m a smart guy and I’m pretty handy, but I’m worried that I’ll get it in my garage and not be able to do what needs to be done to get this car together. Is this something that an average guy can do with a lot of time and patience or should I spare myself the trouble? Any advise would be much appreciated.
A: Should you buy it? Rest assured, by the time you are done you will end up paying about four times as much for the El Camino as one already assembled that you could have just bought and driven away. Financially, it makes no sense. If you look at it as a labor of love, then that’s different. After all the time and effort and money and more money and a little more money, you’ll end up with a vehicle that is truly your own.
Can you do it? I don’t know. Some guys can learn to fix cars and others are hopeless. What do you mean by “completely disassembled”? Rebuilding an engine is an art in itself. If the engine is already disassembled, you can be sure that many (expensive) parts are missing. I have never known an engine in a basket to be complete. And rebuilding the steering system, brakes, fuel system, etc are things that need to be done correctly. For example, you don’t want to be driving your newly restored vehicle down the highway and suddenly lose the ability to steer it. It might be better to learn how to work on cars a little at a time rather than taking on such a large project.
Q: what oil is the best choice for an 1986 El Camino v8 305?
I have a 1986 El Camino and it has a 305 v8. Well there are like a ton of different kinds of motor oils that are advertises. Well I really do not know what one will work the best or would be the best for my 305? I want one that will get the most of out my engine
my engine is original from 1986 it has around 76 thousand miles
A: Mobil one is about the best you can get. Some people will say Royal Purple, but some vehicles have had trouble with it. Both are fully synthetic oils and provide far superior lubrication than conventional oil. Just keep in mind that once you switch to synthetic, you cannot go back to conventional oil.
Ammsoil is also very good, but you have to find someone that sells it and that can be hard to do.
Keep in mind that the 500 horsepower Corvette Z06 comes with mobil 1 in it from the Factory as does the Cadillac CTS V, the Cadillac XLR V etc.
Q: My 1985 El Camino will not start once my starter gets hot, is this a starter problem?
My 85 El Camino won’t start once the engine and starter get hot. When the engine is cold the car turns on, but once i turn it off it won’t do anything when i turn the key. If I wait a several hours untill its cold it will turn on. And if i wait about an hour it still won’t do anything, but if I use jumper cables with another car it turns on. I have also noticed that a couple of weeks ago when I was looking under my car the starter was just hanging from the battery wires, apparently the bolts were lose and must have fallen out when driving. I have replaced the bolts since then but now everytime i try to start it (when its cold) i have to turn the key a couple of times because I can hear the starter spinning but only the starter my engine isn’t cranking. So I turn the key a couple of times and usuall by the 3rd or 4th time it crank. Are these problems related? Is my starter bad? Or do i have several problems here?
A: Replace your starter. GM rebuilt starters are pretty cheap under $60.
Q: can a 66 el camino be fitted with the nose and grill of a 67?
I like the look of the 67’s grill. Can I convert a 66 el camino into a 67?
A: you may have to redrill 2 lower corners and 2 top outer holes so they line up look at headlite bucket and see if its off 1/4- to outer finder to 3/8 off at bottom bolts hook will line up with 1/4 ‘ offset 3/16th but you oly know
Q: How much would it cost and how hard would it be just to put a duramax engine in an el camino?
If I just did the engine and kept the el camino’s trans. how much would it cost? and would I Have to upgrade the rearend? how much would that cost?
A: the el camino trans will not bolt up to that engine… you would be better off finding a totaled truck with that engine in it and putting all the parts you would need on your el camino…. you are talkin a few thousand dollars….it would be wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy more if you bought the parts new
Q: How much money in rebuilding an El Camino?
I’m looking to buy my fist car. I love 78- 82 El Camino’s. I was wondering how much it would coast to rebuild most of the parts ( transition, engine, carburetors, ect.) My dad has the lifts and stuff to do it I just need to know how much money is needed.
A: you can tie up about $6,000 just in rebuilding the drive train, that’s not including any body work or anything else on the vehicle.
