Q: 1970 Dodge Charger front springs and brakes?
hi there, i was wondering if anyone knew what i could do here.. i bought a project 1970 dodge charger about 3 weeks ago and the previous owner said he installed new brake pads [drum brakes on all 4 corners] but when i push the pedal, it makes a squishy noise, goes to the floor, and just comes right back up. it is also leaking at the firewall where the pedal goes into. i’m probably thinking this guy didn’t bleed the system, or the master cylinder is out. how could i tell if it’s either or? and how do you bleed a drum brake system on this car? and why is it leaking in area? [only leaks when you press the pedal down] so right now, i have no brakes on the car. the e-brake doesn’t work either. and my last question, me and a few others were looking at the front suspension and noticed there isn’t any springs, my father owned a ‘69 back in the late 70’s and my friend’s father owned a ‘68 back then too, they couldn’t remember if it had front springs or not, theres no cupping area for a spring?

A: The master Cylinder is shot, It’s is leaking because the O-ring on the piston has rotted away. There are rebuild kits avalible for these at Napa and other autoparts stores, however it may be most cost effective and worth more of your time if you where to convert at least the front of the car to front power disk. There are kits avalible, just search on the web or check out any of the sources in Mopar Muscle, or action mopar. the brake system bleeds like any other system. You just need to turn the bleed valve on the wheel cylinder. As far as the spring question, These cars use torsion bars for thier front springs. It’s the long bar that runs from the wheels to the center of the front of the car. You adjust these with a large socket and a ton of pressure. Make sure you completely understand how torsion suppention works prior to doing anything with these bars as serious injury can occur. If you need more information, Check out the links I have provided.

p.s is there just an 1970 dodge charger not 500 or r/t,and what’s all the kinds of 1970 dodge charger
and whats the difference between them

A: they did build a plain old charger nothing special about it and it had a bench seat in it with the automatic on the column, there’s actually several different versions of it that was made because back then people had the option of ordering what ever they wanted on a car,a friend of mine has one that is an r/t model that has a bench seat and is automatic on the column, they built this with 4 different engine options also you could get a 318 which was a base model car or you could get a 383 or a 440 or a 426 hemi engine in it and each engine had other options available to make it run better also, check this web page out that im sending you it has a real good history of the chargers and what all they came with and what all they could be bought with, good luck, http://www.edmunds.com/dodge/charger/history.html

Q: I was looking to restore a 1970 Dodge Charger and then sell it. Any ideas as to how much I can make?

A: as rule of thumb on restoring a vehicle you only get back about 2/3 of what you put in to it so you wont make no money on it,unless its given to you and someone gives you the parts and supplies about half of the labor free of charge, there’s not to much money to be made on a restored car, people are looking for original cars with good paper work and original documentation on them, the last one i restored i lost about 8 grand on it when i sold it,good luck.

Q: What is the factory speaker setup for a 1970 Dodge Charger?
Speaker locations, sizes, etc…

A: The center of the dash would have a 4×10 speaker if it has one.

If the car has the small speakers at the outer ends of the dash they would be 3.5 inch speakers. But not all 3.5 speakers will fit, some are too deep.

The rear speakers are 5×7 inches

Q: What’s better a 1970 dodge charger 500 or 1970 dodge charger r/t?

A: Gosh, some bad information here!

A lesson needs to be in order before the question is answered. Think of the 1969 Charger and the Charger R/T. For 1970, the previous base Charger was now called the Charger 500, which had no relation to the NASCAR special from the previous year. The base 1970 Charger was basically a decontented car with bench seat standard, among other things. Engines available were the Slant Six all the way to the 383 4bbl. (there never was a Six Pack for the 383).

The engine choices for the 1970 Charger 500 were the same as the base Charger’s. The R/T had a 440-4 standard, with the 440-6 and Hemi as options.

So what’s better? It’s up to you, but considering everyone likes to go faster, I’d have to choose the R/T. Other than the engine, they’re basically the same cars.

I do apologize if I’m beating a dead horse so to speak.

A: back in 1973 i bought 71 challenger with 440 it and with little work on it we had it running around 550 horse power real easy, the 426 was capable of achieving 6-800 horse power, but at no low cost, the 440 can get just as much horse power for almost half the cost of the 426 engine,my car when running right would run speeds up to 145 miles per hour real easy,it wasn’t safe at that speed because those cars actually drove like crap, they didn’t have the needed suspension under them to handle high speeds unless you was on a strait run with them, anyone who has actually owned one will tell you the same thing about them, handling was very bad, cornering was terrible, movie cars often mis-lead people in to thinking those cars was the greatest cars ever built, one thing all the movies did help on and that was to sell a lot of challengers, like the movie vanishing point, dodge sold a ton of those cars back when that movie first came out because the movie was made back when the car was almost new, good luck

Q: 1969 or 1970 Dodge Charger Special Edition SE?
I’m getting into cars and I’m looking for a car to try to restore. My gramps has a 1969 or 1970 Dodge Charger Special Edition SE and i was wondering if its worth restoring it? Slight rust on the back bottom side panels, but nothing too much. Stock lights and wheels look pretty good for how old they are? Any tips appreciated!
Thanks for your insight!

A: Those old Mopars are always in demand. Yes, its worth restoring. If gramps is the original owner and has paperwork to prove it, def restore it.

Find out who Galen Govier is (you need to know who that is) and get some detailed info on the Charger. That will help you decide if there is a financial upside to restoring the car.

Those are awesome cars, esp with the bigger engines. Have fun with it.
